DIRECTORS’ FORUM: THE SIX SENSES OF THE DIRECTOR

	CPR has invited some of the most exciting and diverse Wales-based and international theatre directors to Aberystwyth for an intensive participatory project that offers a rare opportunity for both experienced and emerging directors to gather and share the methods, approaches and skills of professional directing practice via laboratories and presentations, demonstrations and dialogue. The Directors’ Forum comprises a series of evolving and developing practical investigations (not simply workshops and training exercises) in two, three-day blocks that allow small groups of directors to explore know-how, intuition and embodied practices in a safe and intimate atmosphere. These six days of practical investigation are followed by a two-day ‘gathering’ where methods and approaches can be encountered through more presentational formats. Engineer your own pathways and interests through a series of different ‘laboratories’, ‘exploratories’ and ‘forums’, practical and participatory sessions designed to animate, articulate and illuminate aspects of particular directorial/ making processes in exploration with others.   A leading authority on sound healing therapies and author of the book The Healing Power of the Human Voice James shows how working holistically with the voice is a form of sound Yoga and offers true sound health.   Using Linklater based vocal exploration, creative movement and writing, this is an exploration of the Breath and Resonance of Archetype – an opportunity to delve deeper into the ‘archetype’ from which you usually speak and stretch the vocal boundaries of the archetypes which dwell in the shadow of the psyche.   Bragod is the only ensemble performing historically-informed, medieval Welsh bardic music and poetry. Robert Evans and Mary-Anne Roberts will guide you through their 7-year experiment, which encompasses pitting the harmonics of the voice against a musical instrument and an intensely physical, communal exploration of the Trinidad carnival form, leading to a challenging, visceral sound-world. • DEBRA HALE: Shakespeare's Oriental Heart [April 2006]
