The Vamp and the Tiger Killer is a lecture recital, which brings the charm and emotional flamboyance of Chinese opera to Western audiences. The staged extracts are based on an incident, told by the legendary twelfth century poet and story-teller, Shi Nai’an, in his collection of tales about the bandits, who lived in The Water Margins, the marshlands that became the title of his book. Versions of his stories have been turned into films, TV series, comic strips and video-games.

The part of Pan Jinlian is played by Ms Tang Yuen-ha, a famous star of Chinese opera, the only Hong Kong-based artist to have won the highest honour in Chinese theatrical arts, The 8th Plum Blossom Award. Wu Sang is played by Mr. Geng Tianyuan, a well-known actor and director, who has also won many awards in mainland China.

The extracts will be introduced by Dr.Jessica Yeung of the Baptist University in Hong Kong, an expert in Chinese Opera and its variations, such as Cantonese Opera.

This tour is supported by Arts Development Council in Hong Kong and will be touring the UK during February, 2006, over the Chinese New Year.
